Maintenance Machinist

Details: The Chicago Tribune Media Group, Chicago's premier media and business services company in Chicagoland, is seeking energetic and qualified candidates to serve as a Maintenance Machinist at our Manufacturing and Distribution facility near downtown Chicago. As a Maintenance Machinist, you'll be responsible for the repairs and preventive maintenance of large newspaper press, packaging and other related production equipment. You'll be expected to work towards moving forward our Manufacturing initiatives of Safety, People, Efficiency and Customer Satisfaction! As a Maintenance Machinist, you'll be responsible for:To perform the duties of a machinist. These duties consist of lifting 50 pounds, involves walking, stooping, bending, climbing, working from ladders and working above floor levels.To be responsible for the overall quality of maintenance repairs to production equipment in the Pre-Press, Pressroom, Newsprint, Packaging and distribution departments, and other duties as assigned.To abide by company policies, including personnel, labor and safety policies.To assist, recommend or provide training and development of technical abilities to apprentice personnel.To have an adequate supply of personal tools, and perform duties in a professional manner.The machinist has the authority to make any decisions and to take any action not contrary to company policies, necessary to achieve timely and quality production from the production equipment. All qualified candidates will demonstrate the following qualifications: Must have completed a 4-year apprenticeship program or 3 to 5 years of equivalent work experience in a newspaper or production environment. Expertise in the maintenance and repair in a offset or commercial printing facility is a definite plus. Our maintenance personnel must be expert in the use of precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators and thickness gauges. Must possess precision equipment assembly and adjustment skills. Pneumatic and hydraulic maintenance skills are required. Must be able to read blue prints and manuals for diagnostics and repair. Should be skilled in the use of shop tools such as drill presses, lathes, mills and grinders. Candidate should be available to accept work assignments to any shift, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed. Requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with production personnel. Physical requirements include the ability to bend and climb around press equipment and lift up to 50 pounds.
